A Year to Celebrate

New year wish, life celebration, Tibetan food celebration

2017 was a year of change. My little family relocated from Madison, Wisconsin, to Vancouver, Washington and then finally across the river to Portland, Oregon.

I’ve made changes before, moving from country to country, continent to continent, but never twice a year. Each move enabled me to meet new people, gain new perspectives, and experience the rich cultures new communities have to offer. My 2017 was no different.

New years always give opportunities for reflecting and celebrating and, for some, undertaking to do things differently in the coming year.

And now that we settled in a lovely neighborhood, we thought we should celebrate our new home (a century-old house) with our new neighbors and new friends on January 12th.

It wouldn’t be a party without my Tibetan dishes. Along with Amdo Milk Tea, there are five staples I know will include on the menu. They are Momo dumplings, a noodle dish, bread flowers, Tsmpa (a quintessential Tibetan meal made of roasted barley flour, butter and touch of sugar), and Jeetuk (Tibetan sweet rice with red dates). If you live elsewhere, please be with us in spirit.

Wishing you good health, happiness, and success in the coming year.

Cheers to you, my friend.
