On the Road to My Hometown—Rebgong

Colorful fray flags as if they were saying welcome to Rebgong.
Colorful prayer flags by the road, as if they were welcoming everyone with smile and arms wide open.

My twenty-hour journey, flying from Chicago to Beijing, then to Siling (ཟི་ལིང, officially Xining, the capital of Qinghai province) was long but rather a smooth ride. After a couple of days in the city, my little brother Chudar, niece Yechun, and I traveled to my birthplace, Rebgong (རེབ་གོང, Tongren officially), also known as ‘The Rebgong Golden Valley’. Seeing these cultural expressions from the road made me feel at home again. A gorgeous day, cultural and art feast, accompanied by my favorite people, nothing gets better than that.
